About Antalya
Antalya sits between the turquoise Mediterranean and the steep slopes of the Taurus Mountains, and enjoys sunshine for most of the year. In the old town of Kaleiçi, cobbled lanes run from Hadrian's Gate down to the historic harbor, past the Yivli Minaret and restored Ottoman houses. Nature is never far away: the Lower Düden Waterfall plunges straight off the cliffs into the sea, and the long beaches of Konyaaltı and Lara are close to the center. Just outside the city, Perge and Termessos reveal the region's ancient Pamphylian and Pisidian past.
Antalya makes an easy base for day trips in every direction. Boats from the Kaleiçi harbor show you the Düden Waterfall from the sea, while rafting in Köprülü Canyon, jeep safaris into Taurus villages and culture tours pairing Perge with Aspendos are among the most popular Antalya tours. Balance your days between the old town and museums, outdoor adventures and time on the beach. Kaleiçi and Hadrian's Gate
Antalya's historic core is a maze of narrow lanes, restored Ottoman mansions and courtyard cafes. The triple-arched gate, built to honor the Roman emperor Hadrian's visit, marks the classic entrance to the old town.
Düden Waterfalls
At the Upper Düden falls, set in a shady park, a path lets you step into grottoes behind the curtain of water. The Lower Düden falls tumble from high cliffs near Lara directly into the Mediterranean and are best seen from a boat.
Kurşunlu Waterfall
East of the city in Aksu, this waterfall sits inside a nature park with green pools and shaded trails. It makes a cool, quiet escape on hot summer days and an easy add-on to a visit to Perge.
Ancient Perge
Once a leading city of Pamphylia, Perge preserves a long colonnaded street, Hellenistic gate towers, a stadium and a theater. Many of its finest statues are displayed in the Antalya Museum, so the two make a natural pairing.
Termessos
Perched high on Mount Güllük, this Pisidian city is said to have held out against a siege by Alexander the Great. Trails through pine forest climb to a theater on the edge of a cliff with sweeping mountain views.
Rafting in Köprülü Canyon
The clear, cool Köprüçay River offers one of Türkiye's most popular rafting routes, led by experienced guides. Along the canyon you pass pine forests and the Oluk Bridge, a stone bridge dating to Roman times.

When to Go
Beach season in Antalya usually runs from May to October, sometimes stretching into early November. July and August are very hot and humid, which makes time on the water and rafting the most refreshing ways to spend the day. April to June and September to October are best for ancient sites and walking around the city. Winters are mild, and while some days are rainy, it is a quiet time for Kaleiçi, museums and walks with views of the snowy Taurus peaks.
Getting There
Antalya Airport lies close to the city and handles a large number of domestic and international flights; Kaleiçi is about half an hour away by road. A tram line and city buses also connect the airport with the center. Long-distance buses link Antalya with Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir, and the coastal highway makes it easy to reach Kemer, Side and Alanya, which is why the city works so well as a base for day trips.
Practical Tips
- In summer, visit ancient sites early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and bring a hat and plenty of water since shade is scarce.
- For rafting and days on the water, pack a waterproof phone pouch, a towel and a change of clothes.
- Choose Konyaaltı for a long pebble beach with mountain views, or Lara if you prefer fine sand.
